15 years on from the first Wireless Meeting, held in Aveiro, Wavecom continues to invest in this meeting of wireless technology trends.
The Wireless Meeting is an event on trends that has grown over the years, becoming the largest event held in Portugal on Wireless technologies and positioning itself as a landmark in the national agenda of technological events.
The event is also characterised as a space for sharing knowledge about the importance of wireless technologies today and in the near future, involving the biggest international players.
With the aim of discussing different ideals, exchange experiences and new visions of innovation for various types of industries, this event is exclusively face-to-face, to promote interaction across the entire technology industry and stimulate B2B relations between all participants and sponsors.
Now in its 9th edition, this time the city of Oporto welcomes us with open arms, in what is currently the most recent and largest infrastructure in the north of the country, the Super Bock Arena.

Isabel Ramos - Executive Member of the Board of Directors of the Ports of Lisbon and Setúbal
Isabel Moura Ramos has a degree in Economics, she has 2 postgraduate degrees, one in Marketing Management and other postgraduate degree in Information Management (2007), from the University of Aveiro. She attended the Doctoral Program in Strategy and Marketing at the University of Aveiro, U.Minho and U.Beira Interior.
Since 2001, Isabel Moura Ramos has developed her activity in the Portuguese port and maritime sector, performing advisory and coordination functions as Senior Technician in the Business Development Unit at Aveiro Port Authority and in Figueira da Foz Port Authority.
In 2014, she took on the role of Senior Technician in the Direction of Port Terminals and Logistics at Lisbon Port Authority and in 2015 she was elected Executive Director of Shortsea Portugal - Portuguese Association for the Promotion of Short Sea Shipping.
In 2017 she joined the Cabinet of the Minister for Maritime Affairs of the Portuguese XXI Government, as Senior Advisor for the port and maritime sector.
Since October 2022 she is executive member the board of Lisbon Port Authority and Setúbal Port Authority. She is responsible for Strategy, Innovation, Digitalization and Sustainability Programmes of both ports.
Emanuel Pontes - IT Technician Specialist at SMASTV
Emanuel Pontes holds a degree in Computer Engineering and a postgraduate qualification in Network Administration.
He was one of the pioneers in Portugal in the deployment of LoraWan networks to support telemetry, contributing to the development of more resilient and sustainable cities.
He has extensive experience in digital transformation projects and the implementation of technological solutions across different public sectors. His main objective is to share this experience, acquired over several years, in the implementation of LoraWan networks and telemetry systems.
This motivation reflects his dedication to improving operational efficiency through advanced technologies such as SDWAN and LoraWan networks, as well as video surveillance and access management solutions. His expertise, particularly in the context of municipal environments, makes him a qualified and motivated participant in technology and innovation-focused events.

Nuno Mouro - Vogal do conselho de Administração no Teatro Nacional de São João
Nuno Mouro has been a Board Member of the Teatro Nacional São João, E.P.E., since June 2024, responsible for the areas of Technology, Heritage, and Infrastructure.
He holds a degree in Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering, with a specialization in computer networks, a postgraduate degree in IT Management from Porto Business School at the University of Porto, and a postgraduate degree in Networks — Cisco Networking from ISLA — Instituto Politécnico de Gestão e Tecnologia (ISLA-IPGT).
He served as the Director of Technology at Museus e Monumentos de Portugal, E.P.E., from December 2023 to June 2024, where he was responsible for implementing new technological solutions based on disruptive thinking and innovation, leveraging information technology. From 2019 to 2023, he was the Head of the Information and Communication Systems Division at the Municipality of Lousada, leading the digital transformation of municipal services and promoting innovation and efficiency within the local government. Between 2008 and 2016, he worked as an IT specialist at the same institution, coordinating the Information Systems Service from 2016 to 2019, and was responsible for developing the municipal Information Technology strategy, managing, and implementing various Administrative Modernization projects.
He is a full member of the Portuguese Engineers Association — Electrotechnical Engineering College. He was also a founding member of the first Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC) for cybersecurity in the water sector in Portugal — ISAC ÁguasPT.
Paulo Calçada- CEO and Member of the Board of Directors at Porto Digital
Paulo Calçada holds a master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and is the CEO and a board member of Porto Digital. He has a longstanding affiliation with the University of Porto and the Telecommunications Institute, where he previously served as Executive Director of the Competence Center for Cities of the Future and as Head of Business Development and Knowledge Transfer at the Telecommunications Institute in Porto.
In 2010, he co-founded EuroCloud, the European Association for the Promotion of Cloud Computing, where he served as vice-president for three years. EuroCloud, a non-profit organization, promotes the Cloud Computing model across Europe and has expanded to more than 31 countries.
Paulo Calçada actively engages in national and international working groups focused on information technology, particularly in the areas of interoperability, certification, smart cities, and digital transformation. Since 2016, he has led Porto Digital, spearheading innovation and strategic initiatives in urban digitalization.
From 2020 to 2023, he served as Vice-Chair of OASC and Chairman of the Council of Cities, where he played a pivotal role in reorganizing and refocusing the organization, working closely with colleagues from Rotterdam and Vienna to help steer its global growth and ambitions.
David Tajuelo - Iberia Regional Sales Manager at Cambium Networks
David Tajuelo holds a M.Sc. Telecommunications Engineering degree from UPM, a Master in Sales and Marketing Management, and a Blockchain degree from MIT. A pioneer in Spain in the field of wireless deployments since 2004, he has nearly 25 years of experience in the IT market, both nationally and internationally. Involved in Wireless networks, UCaaS, and Cybersecurity, he has held key positions across all channel players: operators (Uni2, NFON), system integrators (Libera Networks), distributors (Diode, Connection), start-ups (Fon), and manufacturers (Hillstone, Cambium), thus gaining a comprehensive view of the IT ecosystem, its needs, and opportunities.
Throughout his career, he has successfully driven delegations, business units, and distribution channels across EMEA.
Mário Rui Santos - Founding Co-CEO of Wavecom
Mário Rui Santos is Founding Co-CEO of Wavecom
He has a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications, and is a specialist in Wireless technologies, based on the training and experience accumulated throughout his career, including 8 years of R&D activity at the Telecommunications Institute and 20 years of activity at Wavecom in the areas engineering, business development and Operational and Strategic management.
António Costa - Consultant at National Cyber Security Center (CNCS)
Consultant at the National Cybersecurity Centre (CNCS), focused on activities related to innovation, resilience and maturity in cybersecurity for industry.
He currently manages and coordinates the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NCC-PT), the European Digital Innovation Hub - C-HUB: Cybersecurity Digital Innovation HUB and the Cybersecurity Competence Centres Network (C-Network). He is also a member of the board of directors (alternate) of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC).
He also carries out activities related to identifying and attracting young cybersecurity talent under the Cybersecurity Challenge PT (CSCPT) initiative and is a member of steering committee and the executive committee of the European Cybersecurity Challenge (ECSC) in cooperation with the European Cybersecurity Agency (ENISA).
National contact point for the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) in the specific objective of Cybersecurity and Trust.
Vasco Lagarto - Technical Director at TICE
Vasco F.F. Lagarto holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Porto (1972) and a Master's in Telecommunications from the University of Essex, obtained in 1975.
He began his career in 1972 at the Center for Telecommunications Studies (CET), where he worked until 2003, by which time the entity was known as PT Inovação. During this period, he held various positions of responsibility in the area of development and innovation.
He represented Portugal in several international standardization bodies, including ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) and ITU (International Telecommunication Union). He was invited as an ITU expert for missions in Algeria in 1981 and 1982.
He served as an auditor for the RACE programs (Research and Development in Advanced Communications Technologies in Europe) in 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991. He participated in several international projects within the scope of the European Community, leading some of them.
Between 1973 and 1979, he taught at the University of Aveiro, where he lectured various courses in Telecommunications and Electronics. In 2005, he took on the leadership of the Telesal excellence network, which involved the University of Aveiro, the Telecommunications Institute, Inovaria, PT Inovação, and Nokia Siemens.
Since 2008, he has collaborated with the TICE.PT cluster, serving on its governing bodies as a representative of the Telecommunications Institute until the end of 2017. From 2018 onwards, he has been leading the cluster's operations, being an active part of its technical team to this day.
Rui Moreira - Mayor of Porto City Council
Rui de Carvalho de Araújo Moreira was born in Porto on August 8, 1956. He attended the German School of Porto and the Garcia de Orta National Lyceum and graduated in Business Management from the University of Greenwich (London, England) in 1978, where he was awarded the prize for the best student in his course that year.
Upon returning to Portugal and his hometown, he distinguished himself as an active voice in defending the interests of the city of Porto and the Northern Region, organizing and participating in conferences on the subject and writing for the press, where he was a regular columnist. He was also a political commentator on various television stations.
He was an international sailor, holding several national championship titles in senior and junior categories across various classes. He served on the Advisory Board of Futebol Clube do Porto. In 2001, he was elected president of the Porto Commercial Association, a position he held until 2013. At the same time, he has held various advisory positions in the areas of commerce, culture, and higher education at the University of Porto and the Catholic University.
Rui Moreira led an independent candidacy for the Porto City Council, being elected on September 29, 2013. He took office as President of the Porto City Council on October 22, 2013. In 2017, he ran for re-election to this municipality, again with an independent candidacy. In the local elections held on October 1 of that year, the movement "Rui Moreira: Porto, Our Party" won with an absolute majority. Re-elected, Rui Moreira took office as President of the Porto City Council for the 2017-2021 term on October 25, 2017.
In 2021, he ran again for the position, for his third and final term as an independent president of the Porto City Council. In the local elections held on September 26 of that year, the movement "Rui Moreira: Here there is Porto!" was re-elected by the people of Porto, and the Executive took office on October 20, 2021.
José Pimenta Machado - President of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA)
He has dedicated his professional life to the field of the environment, particularly in matters related to water resource management.
Since September 2, 2024, he has been serving as the President of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA). From May 2018 to early September 2024, he held the position of Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the APA, in a substitute and secondment role.
From 2011 to April 2018, he was the Regional Administrator of ARH Norte (Northern Hydrographic Region Administration), a decentralized department of the APA in the northern region of Portugal.
He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Polis Litoral Norte (in liquidation) from 2013 to 2021, as well as Chairman of the Liquidation Commission of Polis Ria de Aveiro since 2018.
Since 2018, he has been a member of the board of the Institute of Hydraulics and Water Resources at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, and from 2023, he has been a member of the General Assembly of the Institute for Sustainable Construction (ICS) at the University of Porto for the 2023-2026 term. This institute resulted from the merger of the IC - Construction Institute, the IHRH - Institute of Hydraulics and Water Resources, and the LEMC - Construction Materials Testing Laboratory.
Susana Sargento - Chair of the Scientific Council of IT
Susana Sargento is a Full Professor at the University of Aveiro and a senior researcher at the Telecommunications Institute (IT), where she leads the Network Architectures and Protocols group. She was a visiting student at Rice University (2000-2001) and a visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon University (2008).
She has led and participated in several European projects, CMU and MIT-Portugal projects, and various PRR agendas on Autonomous Mobility, Space, Two-Wheel Vehicles, Tourism, and various Testbeds. Her main research interests, with around 500 publications, lie in the areas of self-organizing networks, Intelligent Transportation Systems, 5G and beyond networks and services, with two large-scale communication and detection platforms in Porto and Aveiro, through the Aveiro TechCity Living Lab.

Since June 2024, Susana Sargento has been an independent board member of Martifer SA, and since July 2024, she has served as Chair of the Scientific Council of IT.
Carlos Barbosa - Systems and IT Specialist at Lousada City Council
Graduated in Portuguese Literature from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto and in Computer Network Security from the School of Management and Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, where he is a master's student in Computer Engineering and a guest assistant professor, Carlos Barbosa is the technical manager for the IT infrastructure and cybersecurity of the Municipality of Lousada.
With over a decade of experience in IT systems administration, he has been part of the municipality's SmartCities projects since 2018, with a particular focus on the architecture of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for Water Supply and Basic Sanitation Networks, as well as the design and implementation of several pilot projects for cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS), under the Cooperative Streets initiative.

With 15 years of experience in the technology field, 10 of which were dedicated to managing global IT and OT operations, he has worked closely with Boards of Directors throughout his career to align technology, infrastructures, and processes with the companies' strategic objectives, contributing to value creation.
He has extensive experience leading digital transformation programs, optimizing infrastructures, managing organizational change, and reducing costs. He has been responsible for large IT digitalization and outsourcing projects. His expertise also includes managing high-performance teams and overseeing 24/7 mission-critical operations.
His professional background includes over 10 years in executive management positions and Information Security projects, making him a recognized leader for his ability to manage and lead complex IT operations.

Fernando Reis holds a degree in Computer Engineering and Information Technologies, and a Master's in Software Development and Interactive Systems.
Until September 2018, he was the IT/Systems Manager at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco, where he also taught programming subjects.

Pedro Pimenta - Researcher at University of Maia
With a degree and PhD in Chemical Engineering, and a Master’s in Communication and Multimedia, Pedro Pimenta has nearly three decades of experience in leadership roles within Information Technology (IT), education, and research.
Throughout his career, he has led significant initiatives both in academia and municipal governance. From the creation and management of municipal data lakes to the implementation of Google Suite in educational settings, his experience spans data management, educational technology, and innovative teaching methodologies.
Among his most notable projects is the design and implementation of a municipal data lake, which integrated data from around 50 different sources. This system utilized a variety of technological infrastructures and data formats, enabling the efficient centralization of information.
Pedro Pimenta is committed to promoting collaboration between different organizations and data interoperability, aiming to develop more informed and robust decision-making mechanisms, with a focus on sustainable urban innovation.
He is currently the Head of Urban Data at the Maia City Council.
Nuno Saraiva - General Director at SEW-EURODRIVE
Nuno Saraiva is the General Manager at SEW-EURODRIVE Portugal, where he leads the expansion and modernization of the company by implementing innovative technologies and advanced production processes. With over two decades of experience in managing and marketing technological solutions for the industry, Nuno Saraiva has specialized in system integration, team management, and business process optimization.
He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in Management from the University of Coimbra and has distinguished himself in modernizing industrial processes and long-term strategic management. Throughout his career, he has led key projects, including the implementation of production management processes such as FIFO, Kanban, Digital Assembly Process, and one-piece flow.
Nuno Saraiva is also a frequent speaker at events on innovation and business leadership, sharing his knowledge in areas such as energy management and resource optimization.

Hugo Azevedo - Business Development Manager at Fortinet
Hugo Azevedo holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Science and Technology at Nova University of Lisbon, and has a Master of Business Administration from AESE/IESE Business School – University of Navarra. He is currently the Business Development Manager for the Lan Edge area at Fortinet.
With extensive experience in the technology sector, he has excelled as a System Engineer at FCCN and Siemens. He is also the founder and partner of Softconcept and LCG, where he manages the Cybersecurity and Networking Business Unit.
Manuel Castro Almeida - Minister of State and Territorial Cohesion
Manuel Castro Almeida, graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra, began his professional career at the age of 16 as an administrative assistant at the Municipal Chamber of São João da Madeira, completing his law degree while working as a student.
He distinguished himself as vice-president of the Metropolitan Board of Porto and president of the Association of Municipalities of the Terras de Santa Maria. In 1982, he became a Senior Technician and later an Administrator of the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission.
Between 1993 and 1995, he held the position of Secretary of State for Education and Sports in the XII Government and served as a Deputy for the PSD from 1991 to 2002. Manuel Castro Almeida was the Mayor of the Municipal Chamber of São João da Madeira from 2002 to 2013 and, from 2013 to 2015, he served as Secretary of State for Regional Development in the XIX Government.
Additionally, he held positions as Deputy Secretary-General, Vice-President, and National Advisor of the PSD, consolidating his presence in regional and national politics with a strong focus on regional development and coordination.
Paula Teles - Founder and CEO of MPT - Mobility and Land Planning
Paula Teles holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's in Urban Environment Planning and Design. She is the founder and CEO of MPT - Mobility and Land Planning, a pioneering company in inclusive urban mobility in Portugal, and the Institute for Cities and Towns with Mobility.
From 2009 to 2013, she served as a councilor in the Penafiel City Council and has been a university professor at several Portuguese and European universities since 2007, currently at the Ágora Faculty (Spain).
Paula is also the Coordinator of the National Network of Cities and Towns with Mobility for All, President of the Walking Cities and Towns Network, and of the Technical Commission for Accessibility and Universal Design within the Portuguese Government. In addition, she is an active member of various national and international organizations related to sustainable mobility and road safety.
Since 2022, she has been a weekly columnist for Jornal de Notícias and is the author of books and technical articles on urban mobility.
Helder Fontes - Wireless Networks Area Manager at INESC TEC
Helder Fontes holds a Master's and PhD in Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto. He is the leader of the Wireless Networks area and an auxiliary researcher at INESC TEC, as well as a visiting assistant professor at FEUP.
So far, he has participated in 26 research and development projects, 12 of which are European in scope. He has supervised and co-supervised 17 Master's theses and currently co-supervises 2 PhD students, accumulating around 30 scientific publications.

He has also contributed to the development of multi-technology networks, dynamically provisioned for emergency scenarios through the RESPONDRONE, OVERWATCH, and HURRICANE projects.
His research interests include simulation, emulation, and experimentation in wireless networks, especially in emerging scenarios such as aerial and maritime networks. He focuses on cross-layer optimization and the repeatability and reproducibility of experiments using Digital Twins for wireless networks.
Benjamim Rodrigues - President of the Municipal Chamber of Macedo de Cavaleiros
Benjamim Rodrigues, President of the Municipal Chamber of Macedo de Cavaleiros, holds a degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.
Specialized in Orthopedics, Benjamim Rodrigues has distinguished himself by holding various significant positions, including that of Member of the Health and Social Action Commission of the Municipal Assembly of Macedo de Cavaleiros. His extensive experience includes participation in several committees and leadership roles in scientific societies, earning him widespread recognition for his contributions to the field of orthopedics.
In office at the Municipal Chamber since 2017, Benjamim Rodrigues has recently focused on implementing one of the largest water management projects in Portugal, which enables real-time monitoring of water consumption and the detection of irregularities, significantly contributing to the reduction of waste.
Artur Branco - Executive Director of the Leça River Corridor Association of Municipalities
Artur Ferreira Branco holds a degree in Environmental Engineering from the Catholic University of Portugal – School of Biotechnology in Porto. From 2008 to 2022, he worked in the Environment Division of the Territorial Sustainability Department at the Maia City Council, where he focused on water resources, biodiversity promotion, climate change adaptation, territorial planning, sustainable mobility, riverside urban park design, and other related areas.
Between 2016 and 2021, he led the Metropolitan Working Group for the decontamination of the Leça River, coordinating the development of strategic documents: Masterplan of the Leça River Corridor and the Strategic Recovery Program of the Leça River 2021/2031.

Pedro Pinto is the Head of Cybersecurity and Coordinator of the Incident Response Team at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda, and is part of the National Network of Incident Response Centers. Holding a degree in Computer Engineering and a Master's in Mobile Computing, Pedro Pinto teaches at the Higher Education level in various technological areas, in addition to being an instructor and responsible for the Cisco, Fortinet, and C-Academy academies.
An active member of Metared Portugal and the cross-border CIBERIA project, which promotes a cybersecurity zone in the CENCYL region, Pedro Pinto also plays a prominent role as President of the IT Specialty of the Order of Technical Engineers. Rui Mesquita - Smartcity Lagoa Project Coordinator
With over 30 years of experience in the Information Technology, IT, and Consulting sectors, he possesses deep knowledge of the challenges of the web and the right value propositions for large, medium, and small companies. A computer engineer, he holds a degree in Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes - Lusófona and is pursuing a Master's degree in the Internet of Things at the Instituto Politécnico de Beja, Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão. He currently serves as an IT Specialist at the Municipality of Lagoa (Algarve), coordinating the SmartCity Lagoa project within the Smart Cities service.
An innovation and sustainability enthusiast, he has been an active promoter of open innovation processes. He also teaches Interface and Interaction in the Communication Design undergraduate program and Programming for Creativity I/II in the Creative Technologies undergraduate program at Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

Nuno Marques - Co-CEO at Wavecom
Nuno Marques is chairman and speaker at several conferences in the area of Telecommunications and Entrepreneurship. In 2011 he won 1st prize in the Technology-Based Entrepreneurship Course at the University of Aveiro.
During his career as an entrepreneur, he founded several companies in the technology sector, including GoContact, acquired in 2021 by a North American group. He is currently director of Wavecom Holdings, which owns several telecommunications companies both in Portugal and abroad, including Wavecom Engineering, of which he is Co-CEO.
André Branquinho - VP of Product | RFID & RTLS at WAVECOM
Graduated in Physics from the University of Aveiro, he continued his studies in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering. He completed his master's degree at the Hamburg University of Technology, focusing on signal processing and wireless communications. While in Hamburg, he worked at Silver Atena on the electrical optimization of modern commercial aircraft. His professional experience continued in Portugal at Veniam, working on vehicular communication networks. Later, he joined Sword Health, where he developed the foundations of the motion quantification system, which led to the company’s first patents. He also led the algorithms team for two years. In 2017, he joined Wavecom and led the first innovation project in the field of indoor positioning systems, which resulted in Wavecom's first patent application in this area and the creation of a new business line. Since then, he has been actively involved in implementing technologically innovative projects in the industrial sector and is currently responsible for managing location and traceability products (RFID and RTLS), with a focus on Industry and Healthcare.
Mário Almeida - Business Development Manager – IoT & Smart Cities at WAVECOM
Having joined the group in 2009, Mário Almeida has been part of Wavecom's commercial team since 2017.
He has primarily focused on Wavecom's proprietary products, particularly in the Smart Cities and IoT sectors, where he has spearheaded the company's flagship projects.
